Figured Eucalypt

Eucalyptus sp.

Most Tasmanian ecualypt species produce figured wood, however some species regularly produce more distinct figuring. While figure in wood is desired for decorative work it has been a down grade for structural timber and has often been a problem for sawmillers. It also occurs in younger regrowth.

Availability:   IST recover eucalypt logs with fiddle-back and birds-eye grain from logging operations for processing into slabs and timber or for sale by tender.  Some eucalypt logs with fiddle-back grain are milled into flitches for the production of sliced veneers.  You may be lucky to find some Tas Oak boards and pannelling with decorative grain for sale at standard prices in hardware or timber outlets.
