Log 19, Sassafras, light black-heart. A head log with light black-heart, some soft wood at the butt end, limbs and bumps. The butt end has a split near the sapwood which extends for about half a metre. A few larvae holes in the bark and sapwood are visible but will not affect the heartwood. This log should be milled in two pieces to reduce the impact of log taper on timber recovery. Length 5.1 metres, butt diameter 46 cm, head diameter 35 cm, volume 0.64 cubic metres, weight about 675 kg. This log could milled to order at IST Geeveston on their Woodmizer bandsaw mill at $220 / hour; the timber can be collected or freighted to your address strapped and wrapped on a pallet.
